In 2006 the I.D. #4 council discussed establishing a charitable foundation that could assist in funding future community based projects through issuance of tax deductible receipts for funds donated. This led to the formation of the Waterton Foundation, which is now incorporated. Tax receipt granting status is expected to be received in 2008.
While all funds collected must be expended within Waterton Lakes National Park, this foundation will have a broad mandate allowing it to raise funds on behalf of a variety of associations and agencies provided they are eligible for receipt of funding. These groups can include, among others:
The Waterton Foundation is also being established to allow donors to direct their contributions to particular projects or groups they wish to support.
How to make your donation Until tax receipt granting status is received The Chinook Foundation is prepared to receive donations directed to the Waterton Foundation for either general purposes or specific qualifying projects. The Chinook Foundation will match donations received on behalf of the Waterton Foundation up to a cumulative total of $50,000 with the Chinook Foundation matching donations to be directed to the Waterton Playground Project (construction to commence in 2008).
