New Blog: Winter in Waterton

Winter isn't my favourite season, but I make the best of it. Thinking back to when I was a kid, I don't remember winter being intolerable. Granted, I had my parents to bundle me in layers of winter clothing (did anyone else's mother regularly zip their neck and chin up in their winter coat?)  and drive me to school. But I also remember playing outside despite the frosty temperatures. I loved building snow forts, tobogganing on my GT Snow Racer and ice skating on backyard skating rinks. Back then, I instinctively made the best of the situation. 

After this years holiday rush was over, I embraced my long-lost (winter) inner child, packed a bag and headed to Waterton to partake in some winter fun.

New Article: Top Ten Winter Things to do in Waterton Lakes National Park
The Parks Canada staff at Waterton Lakes National Park has put together a list of their top ten things to do in winter. Here it is...

1. Snowshoe into Crandell Lake and picnic in the shelter.

2. Go for a ski or walk on a full moon night - and hope the coyotes howl!

3. Cross-country ski the Dipper and Cameron trails to Cameron Lake and have a hot chocolate at Little Prairie picnic area.

4. Sit around a fire at the Community Kitchen and watch the storms from Driftwood Beach.

5. Watch the sunrise from Lower Waterton Lake pull-out.

6. Snowshoe up and over the Akamina Pass and have a picnic on the continental divide.

7. Walk along the river between the Marquis Hole and the Dardanelles.

8. Sled by the Bertha Lake trailhead.

9. Walk around the townsite and Lakeshore Trail on a squeaky cold, clear and calm day; and watch for dippers below Cameron Falls.
